Manufacturer opens
R511m facility
June 3 saw the official
opening of Unilever’s
Indonsa factory expansion in
KZN, representing a R511-
million investment.
Upswing in volumes
moved by rail
There is a definite upswing
in the share of rail transport,
with Transnet Freight
Rail (TFR) set to move
a projected 225 million
tonnes of freight this year,
compared to 220 million
tonnes last year.
Warehouses suddenly
on a growth curve
After some two decades of
the number of warehouses
in this country diminishing
due to increasing use of justin-
time (JIT) cargo delivery,
particularly in the
SA manufacturing
industry, the tide
appears to have
turned.
New packing laws
hold non-compliant
consignors
responsible
Consignors and any company
involved in the transport
of cargo, whether general
freight, refrigerated or
dangerous goods by road,
rail or water, in any form
of container, trailer, tanker
or rail car, will be required
by law to implement and
adhere to the new IMO/ILO/
UNECE Code of Practice for
Packing of Cargo Transport
Units (CTU).
