Land movement of oversized or heavy items can be one of the most challenging areas of logistics, says SDV’s Caroline Brownson. “Site location is often in faroff and remote areas of the continent and to define the best mode of transport, routing and ensure that we deliver the cargo in good condition and on time is imperative.” According to Brownson, SDV have established themselves as experts in the field of project cargo in the mining sector and have the financial backing to be able to support mining business in Africa. “We are often faced with governmental issues regarding mining exemptions, withholding tax and pre-shipment inspections and we need to ensure that we adhere to all laws and regulations in these sometimes difficult countries. Ultimately it is about guiding our customers and providing them with the best solution to specific problems.” CAPTION SDV is heavily involved in the movement of project cargo for the mining industry and recently moved this trommel from South Africa to Madagascar for a mineral sands project.
