KIEN HUNG Line has handled 2062 TEUs of Isuzu and Opel products since agents Status Maritime were awarded a contract in January by Delta Motor Corporation.
Status has been contracted to handle an estimated 9 000 TEUs in Isuzu CKD (completely knocked down) units from Japan and 4 000 TEUs in Opel Corsa CKD from Brazil during the next two years.
It's a major success for our Port Elizabeth-based office following lengthy negotiations, says Ian Wicks, m.d. of Status Maritime.
The key criteria for Delta's decision to place the shipping contract with Status included the service levels, sailing frequency and reliability of schedule, says Ian Nicholls, Delta's director of materials management.
Wicks says that in future Kien Hung will be sailing directly from Japan and not transhipping in Hong Kong in order to improve turnaround times for Delta.
Kien Hung Shipping South Africa was purchased by Status Maritime in 1997.
