Kenya Airways reinstates West African flights

Kenyan health officials have lifted their ban on flights between that country and West Africa.

It was imposed last year because of the Ebola virus epidemic.

Following the end of the restriction, the national carrier, Kenya Airways, immediately resumed flights to Liberia and Sierra Leone – two of the main Ebola-stricken countries.

The carrier, one of the biggest in Africa and with an Air France shareholding, stopped flying to Monrovia and Freetown in August last year. This, according to Airwise News, lost the financially-troubled carrier routes worth tens of millions of dollars in annual revenue. It recorded large losses in its year ended March, but not all due to this flight ban.

The Kenyan health ministry, however, said it would continue to screen all passengers from affected countries at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi.
