Long-haul transporters using the Kazungula One-stop Border Post (OSBP) across the Zambezi River between Zambia and Botswana are advised that the bridge will be closed tomorrow from 6am to 1pm.
This is for an official visit by Hakainde Hichilema and Paul Kagame, the heads of state of Zaire and Rwanda respectively.
According to Kage Barnett of the Transit Assistance Bureau (*), the OSBP will still receive online submissions of declarations and e-payments.
From 1pm onwards there will be full resumption of operations, including the physical movement of traffic.
According to the Zambia Revenue Authority, “the processing of customs transactions at the Kazungula OSBP Central Processing Centre and all other online processes will not be affected during the event”.

* Cross-border transporters are advised that Kage Barnett will be taking over from Mike Fitzmaurice, current chief executive of the Federation of East and Southern African Road Transport Associations (Fesarta).
Fitzmaurice, a long-standing custodian of long-haul interests in the Sub-Saharan region, announced this morning that he would be standing down until further notice for personal reasons.
