Jumbo jumbo dies before flying home

LEONARD NEILL ‘THE BIGGEST elephant in the world’ won’t be coming home to South Africa after all. Angus, the giant popular star of many TV and print adverts in the US and Canada, has died. Plans to fly him from his Ontario home to the Eastern Cape have therefore been abandoned. It would have been the first time that a full-grown elephant had been airlifted, let alone one that has been ranked the largest in existence. Standing 4.15m at the shoulder Angus was to have been brought home in the world’s largest air freighter, a Russian Antonov, in a special crate and kept under sedation throughout the journey. A film unit was on standby to accompany him. Causes of his death have not been revealed.
