Improving knowledge of systems and the integration of freight knowledge to systems must remain at the top of the agenda, according to Stephen Libera, solutions consultant with CompuClearing. “Individuals who have good industry knowledge do not necessarily have good systems knowledge,” he said. “We are therefore seeing the skills gap in relation to systems widening. This is all attributed to the lack of organisations putting emphasis on logistics systems management and the importance of these systems in the industry.” It is essential that companies ensure their employees not only understand the systems in place but also are effective users thereof, said Libera. “Training plays a critical role in this. Not only do we, as the developers of the software, train our employees on our systems to better understand our customers and their needs, we also train our customers on the systems we implement such as CompuSolutions Diamond and CargoWise One.” Libera said this ensures a better understanding of the role that systems play in the supply chain and the need for effective technical and operational support and fault resolution. “Ultimately, this allows our customers to use our systems in the most effective way, enabling them to achieve their goals internally and pass these benefits onto their customer base.” Whilst there are many training facilities in the industry, not many offer in-depth knowledge and practical use of systems. “Not only are our systems industry specific, they are commerce or business specific. Ultimately understanding systems better allows for the optimal use of them and that relates in an organisations achieving greater efficiency all-round,” said Libera.
