THE FREIGHT industry has cottoned on to the benefits of video-based training, if response to the import and export courses developed by Shaun Lake is anything to go by.
Launched in 1996 (exports) and 1997 (imports.), the courses are being used by a client base which extends well over South Africa's borders. It has been sold in South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Botswana, Swaziland, Switzerland and Australia.
And the reason, says Lake, is that more than 80% of the material is generic.
The courses are designed to make the student think and strategise. The information is just one of the tools he must use.
Lake is currently working on an international trade finance and payment training programme on CD ROM for Africa and the Middle East.
It will be an UNCTAD programme funded by the Arab Trade Finance Programme, totally generic, and applicable world-wide, says Lake.
Its initial application will be in the Middle East and Lake will be visiting the region shortly after its release to introduce it to the trainers.
In the meantime, any enquiries about he MITB-accredited import and export video courses should be directed to Shaun Lake at his new premises in Rivonia.
