Internal results justify ISO

There is definitely
room for the
proposed customising
of the system

THE ONE standard system theoretically makes those metaphorical playing fields that much more level, according to Michaela Milne, national sales and marketing manager of CFR Freight.
An increasing number of companies are recognising the value of attaining an ISO accreditation, she said.
The world is becoming more accessible due to the electronic media - making trade between 1st and 3rd world countries more viable.
It therefore stands to reason that - if all partners adhere to a uniform standard of quality - there will be few deviations or different expectations with regard to the quality of services and/or products.
However, Milne points to the present ISO standard as being a clumsy system for companies in the service industries.
The ISO 9002 standard is not ideally suited to the service industry, she said, and there is definitely room for the proposed customising of the system.
Being more specific, Milne indicates that quality assurance procedures 08-00, 10-00 and 12-00 are aimed at the manufacturing industry.
The various other procedures were also originally designed for this industry, and - although they have been successfully adapted - there is need for the reform.
She also feels that internal results have justified the CFR adoption of ISO standards.
Although sceptical at first, said Milne, we are pleased to say that the system works for every last one of us.
Within the company, the service levels have definitely improved since our implementation of ISO 9002 - amongst the first of the groupage operators to be certificated.
I am proud to announce that we have just passed our first surveillance audit with flying colours.
