Greater migration to cloudbased
deployments is on
the cards for the freight and
logistics industry for the
immediate future in the
view of general manager and
systems architect for ShipShape
Software, JL Koekemoer.
“This especially as more
and more companies realise
the benefits offered by such a
platform, and as the associated
costs come down and domestic
connectivity quality improves,”
he said, adding that all these
were key aspects of making a
cloud-based deployment the
success it should be.
According to
Koekemoer, failure
to recognise
key areas of
improvement
or to
anticipate
major changes
in the technology landscape is a
risk of which all players in this
market are very well aware.
“We continuously
identify new trends
and have, for a
number of years
now, offered
a complete
cloud-based
solution
to clients
looking to move
their business-critical systems
off-site,” he told FTW.
Koekemoer noted that
while many freight and
logistics companies were doing
“incredibly well” in leveraging
technology to improve
efficiency, there were still some
stumbling blocks to innovation.
But adding innovation
needn’t be a major challenge.
“Start with the easy wins first;
innovation can be as simple
as eliminating duplication
of effort within or across
departments or as complex as
implementing complete turnkey
systems and solutions,”
said Koekoemoer.
He added that even most
seemingly trivial adjustments
to processes in an organisation
could significantly improve
the bigger picture in terms of
efficiency.
