In her honour

As South Africa celebrated Women’s Day (August 9), President Jacob Zuma honoured the women who marched to the Union Buildings to protest pass laws in 1956 by renaming four machines at the Government Printing Works after the stalwarts of the march. These includeHelen Joseph, Sophie de Bruyn, Lilian Ngoyi and Rahima Moosa. He is pictured here with Sophie de Bruyn, a commissioner at the Commission for Gender Equality and a leader of the 1956 women’s march.
