Ignorance inhibits motor industry incentive scheme

Renfreight Circle develops system to help clients

MANY MEMBERS of the motor and component industries are missing out on MIDP (Motor Industry Development Programme) incentives, according to Sue Maherry, Renfreight Circle's regional general manager in the Eastern Cape.
The programme offers rebated imports and export incentives to those who qualify under the conditions of the MIDP.
But Maherry's warning is to get it right - because ensuring compliance with the requirements of the programme is a tricky process. Getting it wrong, and facing rejected export claims, she added, can cost a company millions.
To achieve this, Maherry suggests that there should be better communication amongst motor and component manufacturers - especially where JIT (just in time) procedures need to be well lubricated.
They need to speak to each other, and the flow of information has to be accurate, she said.
Renfreight Circle has identified this need, Maherry added, and has developed an integrated information system to manage the whole implementation of clients' MIDP requirements.
By smoothing the way between motor manufacturer and assembler through our seamless process, everybody will realise the benefits, and the industry will grow.
