This year marks the
centenary anniversary of
the Institute of Chartered
Shipbrokers – an event that
coincided with another
milestone for the South
African branch.
In recognition of his
work in establishing the SA
branch in 1994, and for his
continued involvement with
tutoring, Sean Minogue
was granted life-time
membership of the ICS. It’s
the first time the award has
been bestowed on a South
African member.
Students who recently
completed their Professional
Qualifying Exams (PQE) and
who will become members
of the ICS joined leaders
in the shipping industry to
celebrate the event at a gala
dinner in Durban recently.
Proving that you’re never
too experienced to learn, GM
sales and marketing at MOL,
Iain Mcintosh, was one of
the group, having recently
completed his third year
of study with the ICS, and
having picked up two ‘top
student’ awards en route.
An industry stalwart, with
decades of experience behind
his name, Mcintosh is full of
praise for the Institute. “It’s
not for the faint hearted,” he
told FTW. “You have to put
in a lot of time studying but
I have learnt so much about
the business. It’s not easy
when doing your day job
at the same time but it has
definitely given me a lot of
strengths when working in
the market.”
In recognition of the
important role that skillsdevelopment
plays in the
industry, FTW has agreed to
sponsor a deserving student
to study for the PQE.
