ICS appoints new branch director

ON THE back of its expanded product offering, the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) has appointed Megan Harris (FICS) to the newlycreated position of South African branch director, effective June 23. Currently ICS SA education officer, Harris will resign this role to concentrate on managing the Institute’s growth through the current period of healthy educational change in southern Africa. The ICS will appoint a new education officer at its AGM on August 7. In a parallel expansion, Harris has also been appointed by the ICS head office in London to fill a consulting role in international marketing. She will work closely with all ICS branches and Distance Learning Centres worldwide to build awareness of the professionalism and ethics subscribed to by the ICS for the shipping industry. On August 1 the Institute will relocate to its new premises in Morningside, Durban with a dedicated training room and additional office space. The ICS has 24 branches worldwide and 16 Distance Learning Centres. Approximately 5000 students sit the Qualifying Exams around the world each year in April, making them one of the largest internationallyrecognised professional membership and education bodies in the shipping industry worldwide.
