Regular consignments of wheel rims move to Japan HYENAS AND wild dogs have become a major freight concern for Aireps which, as general sales agents for Malaysia Airways, are sending the animals from Johannesburg International Airport in both eastern and western directions. Hyenas are heading for zoos and wild life establishments in Chile, South America while the wild dogs are making their way to China where packs are being bred. "They are among the most unusual series of cargoes we have booked recently," says AirepsÕ Lee Pawson. "The South American shipments have been interesting in that, with MalaysiaÕs two flights a week from here, we are able to book cargo to any destination in either South or North America, from a hub in Buenos Aires where there are ample connecting flights available throughout the day. "Cargo loads in both directions, east or west, have been amazingly good recently. On the Far East run we are sending regular consignments of Nissan and Mazda wheel rims to Japan. The items are manufactured here and then used in the final assembly plants after reaching Tokyo." Repaired aircraft engines, and others that have been reconstructed - a service in which South Africa is enjoying a boom - are also among the top listed shipments Aireps has been booking.
