Oil and gas reserves off the coast of Mossel Bay are extremely low and finding new fields is a priority for PetroSA. According to Michael Nene, operations manager at PetroSA’s gas-to-liquid (GTL) refinery in Mossel Bay, it is estimated that the current reserves will only last until 2018. “At the moment we pump some 2000 barrels of oil per day and around 200 000 cubic metres of gas,” he told FTW. “While there are some small pockets of oil and gas off the coast, most of them are not really economically viable to develop.”
