Transporters are advised to proceed with caution on the N2 in the vicinity of Pongola (*).
According to the Transit Assistance Group (Transist), the N2 highway 15 kilometres from Pongola is entirely blocked off with trucks.
Transist suggested that truck drivers should not use the highway from Piet Retief towards Pongola.
Although it is not certain what the blockade is about, an industry insider said it was presumed to be caused by the All Truck Drivers' Foundation, better known as the ATDF, a vigilante group notorious for violently disrupting the road freight sector in South Africa.
"They're probably stopping trucks, asking for work permits to see whether foreign national drivers are legally working in the country.
"We've seen this before.
"They stop drivers and harass them under the pretext of doing so for the sake of job-seeking truckers in South Africa," the source said.
