TRADE BETWEEN Israel and South Africa has continued to increase and has risen nearly 30% in the first half of this year, said Joseph Abraham, first secretary for economic affairs at the Embassy of Israel.
Addressing the annual general meeting of the South African Israel Chamber of Commerce, Abraham said high-tech sector exports to South Africa rose by about 71% and were mainly responsible for this change.
South African exports to Israel also increased in the first half of this year.
There is definitely scope for cooperation between Israeli and South African companies. We shall encourage visits to and from Israel in different sectors. Israel shall continue to strengthen its economic position through its commitment to a free market economy, accelerating privatisation and liberalisation and reaching free trade agreement with additional countries, he said.
Israel currently has free trade agreements with
the EU, the US, Canada, Mexico, the Czek Republic, Hungary, Poland, the Slovak Republic, Slovenia and Turkey.
