HIGH LE VELS of crime are severely hampering investment in Cape Town, significantly impacting on the city’s 60 000 formal businesses. This is one of the major conclusions of a survey commissioned by Wesgro, the Western Cape Investment and Trade Promotion Agency. So grave has the situation become that city businesses spend up to 7.8% of their annual turnover on measures to fight crime, compared to the national average of 1.1%.
