IN LINE with its new export focus, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics South Africa has set up a new department in its Pretoria branch specialising in regulatory procedures stipulated by the Motor Industry Development Programme. "The Department of Trade and Industry introduced this incentive scheme in order to make the local motor industry internationally competitive within a reasonable period of time," Leon Bukes, Hellmann's Pretoria branch manager told FTW. "Exporters earn credits in the form of an import rebate credit certificate which can be offset against import duties. The core of the scheme revolves around the completion and timeous issue of a declaration of foreign currency usage by the manufacturer, based on imports per customs quarters. "Alternatively duties can be refunded if approved by the board on Trade and Tariffs." It is with this process that Hellmann's new MIDP consulting services department aids its automotive client base, thereby avoiding any possible rejection of claims. The company has also developed and implemented a sophisticated software package tailor-made for the capture of data, processing and auditing of claims associated with the automotive industry.
