Heesom-Green takes on new role

IVAN HEESOM-Green, currently Safmarine’s liner executive for South African-based trades, has taken over from Graham Peirce as liner director. Peirce retires at the end of March after 16 years with the Safmarine Group. Peirce transferred to Safmarine as liner director in 1987 after holding senior management positions with the Rennies Shipping Group, including that of general manager. As liner director based in Antwerp, Belgium, Heesom-Green will assume responsibility for the operation of Safmarine’s trade routes worldwide. He will also oversee trade finance, fleet management and operations, multi-purpose vessel services and growth, development and project activities. Heesom-Green will also be appointed to the business development committee of Safmarine Container Lines effective April 1. He joined Safmarine’s Cape Town office in 1990 and has held various positions in the company’s finance, marine and liner departments.
