AN INTERESTING calculation from an FTW reader - who carefully analyses transport costs and rates for his own business interest - reveals that road transporters’ costs have dropped considerably in the last two months. Looking at the trucker’s diesel prices, which dropped 53 (from original misquote of 47) cents a litre last month, and 40c this month, he calculates that this - given that fuel is 30% of a transporter’s running costs - saw an overall 8% drop in operational costs. This from the calculation that May’s minus 53c/lt was equal to a ±4%-to-5 % reduction in operating cost, and June’s -40c/lt = ±3%-to-4%. “Now just see if anybody gets a cut out of this in decreased rates,” he said
