It was a bitter sweet occasion when Metro Minds hosted its graduation ceremony for the 2009/10 freight forwarding and clearing learnership group. The untimely death late last month of Mark Hampton of DSD Freight Management, one of the originators of the course who died after a serious illness, and top student Trelawnie Botha, who was killed in a motor car accident, clouded the event. Botha, of a hartrodt, received the Mark Hampton Top Achiever Award for her 90% showing in the examination. The award was handed to Donna Broekman of a hartrodt to pass on to her family. Lebohang Mofokeng of Expeditors and Zolani Tamba of UTi both achieved 88% while Thokozane Magubane of FH Bertling graduated with 83%. The course was jointly run by Juliette Fourie of Metro Minds and the late Mark Hampton of DSD Freight Management. As an accredited provider of the learnership courses, Metro Minds will continue the journey. For 12 months the learners attended classroom-based training every second week, completing assessments and class tests which culminated in a four-hour examination at the end of the programme. “Testament to the success of the course is the fact that they have all been employed in the industry,” Fourie told FTW.
