ONE OF SA’s major freight systems specialists, Compu- Clearing, has joined up with DSD Freight & Logistics Training in a specialised, hands-on training venture. “This has been designed to ensure that DSD graduates are not only knowledgeable in all aspects of freight operations and procedures,” said Compu- Clearing chairman, Arnold Garber, “but will also get the practical experience to implement the theory. “DSD will now extend its syllabus to training in customs and other activities through computer systems which we have installed at its premises.” It’s a logical entry into the world of electronic data processing (EDP) in the freight industry, according to Mark Hampton of DSD. “In the year 2007 there is no point in entry clerks knowing how to frame entries manually,” he told FTW. “While that knowledge is essential to start with, for the learners to become productive they need to have training and experience in performing all these activities electronically.” Meanwhile, DSD will also eventually take over the running of Compu- Clearing’s “crash courses” – aimed at people who are already experienced in the freight business, but who need further knowledge on how to use the company’s systems. “We are specialists in providing systems to the customs clearing and freight forwarding fraternity, but not in training,” said Garber. “You are only good at something in which you are specialised, and this is why we have engaged the services of DSD. “A graduate will be able to work in a company which uses Compu-Clearing systems, and become productive from day one.”
