Hamburg Sud held the naming ceremony for two new containerships that - with 2 100 reefer plugs each - boast the largest reefer capacity in the world.
It named the twin 9 600-TEU sister ships the Cap San Nicholas and the Cap San Marco at a ceremony at the Hyundai Heavy Industries yard in Ulsan, South Korea, reports Shipping Gazette.
After delivery, the Cap San Nicholas will be phased into the carrier’s service between Asia and the East Coast of South America (Ecsa) in June. The Cap San Marco will be deployed in the same service in July.
They are the first in a series of six ships of the new Cap San class, Hamburg Sud’s biggest ships. Two more Cap San ships will be delivered at the Korean yard this year, and the last two units will be handed over to Hamburg Sud in January 2014.
