A sharp increase in the
movement of goods of a
specialised nature along
with a spike in crime have
seen a vast improvement
in security measures
over the past 10 years,
says manager: business
development at Guardforce
International, Sandra
Alexander.
“Our facility constantly
stays ahead of the trends
in terms of security
gadgets and technology,”
she told FTW.
Guardforce operates
from a high-tech, purposebuilt
facility and specialises
in the monitoring, handling
and safeguarding of both
valuable and vulnerable
cargo arriving at or
departing from O R Tambo
International Airport.
The company recently
expanded its services to
cater for increased volumes
and the specialised security
needs of its customers.
The 1700 sqm warehouse
caters for a range of
valuable and vulnerable
cargo – from cell phones,
computers and electronic
equipment, to fashion
goods and pharmaceutical
products.
A mix of options is
available. The transit shed
stores goods for up to 14
days prior to payment of
Customs duties, while
goods can be held in
the bond store for up to
three years without duties
being paid. A duty paid
store allows for indefinite
storage of goods while a
certified refrigerator caters
for drugs, pharmaceutical
products or other
temperature-sensitive
goods.
In addition, a secure
helicopter and fixed-wing
facility is available for
goods arriving or departing
directly by air. “Cargo
can be transferred from a
helicopter of any size, or
aircraft up to Gulfstream V
size, into the vault within
two minutes of arrival,” she
says.
“Liability cover
underwritten by Lloyds
of London, up to US$100
million, is available per
shipment from the aircraft
to our facility and while in
storage on our premises.”
Effectively, it’s a onestop
security option, she
adds.
