The possibilities of doing business in Africa are endless, says Andre Du Venage, operations manager of G4S Special Cargo Handling (G4SSCH). “There has been phenomenal growth in Africa and investments from across the world are slowly but surely paying off. The continent has significant business opportunities, especially for South Africa, which is the cargo hub of the continent.” According to Du Venage this is seen in the growth of companies already working in Africa despite the ongoing global economic turmoil. This does not mean Africa does not have its own share of problems. “Infrastructure and communication remain an issue, but communication giants such as MTN and Vodacom are increasing their investments into Africa. We are definitely seeing improvements in infrastructure – the Americans have invested in road works in several countries. Problems are definitely being addressed and no-one can deny the possibilities that exist.” With a foothold in all but seven countries in Africa, G4SSCH is continuing its expansion across the continent, now providing a specialised armed escort service. “It is an exciting time for us,” says Du Venage. “Secure delivery is needed everywhere and we believe the service we offer will address the need we have identified in the market. The company also successfully moved from a familyowned business to a corporate company and the benefits of the G4S buy-out last year are now starting to bear fruit.” According to Du Venage the company has also expanded to provide container escorts from the various ports within South Africa to Johannesburg.
