In-house recruiters are becoming a big challenge in the freight recruitment industry with a real impact on service levels. According to Terri Smith, managing director of Tiger Recruitment, there is no substitute for experience. “Many of these recruiters know little if anything about the industry, placing the wrong candidates and ultimately giving many expert recruiters a bad name,” she told FTW. This, said Smith, has a ripple effect on service levels. “Ultimately losses occur and companies find themselves forced to resort to retrenchments.” Placing people in the freight industry is not an easy task. “Without passion and an investment in long-term commitment, survival rates are limited.” This is particularly relevant for recruitment agencies that find themselves rushed to deliver candidates. “If you are not interviewing the candidates face-to-face, but rather copying and pasting CVs with no personal investment in the candidates, you are not going to see the lasting results. In fact one can even ask why such an agency is charging a fee,” she said. INSERT & CAPTION Without passion and an investment in long-term commitment, survival rates are limited. – Terri Smith
