Grindrod Intermodal incorporates Unitainer

The last link has been added to Grindrod Intermodal’s chain of four complementary business operations, designed to act as a one-stop service provider for the movement of containerised cargo in southern Africa. The final step in this exercise has been the incorporation of Unitainer – a business division that sells, leases and converts containers. “We sell new and secondhand containers on the domestic market,” said Michael Fry, GM of Grindrod Intermodal’s sales and leasing division. “We lease various types of containers on the domestic market and to shipping lines. “Conversions are done at our New Pier premises in Durban, East London, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town and Johannesburg.” Unitainer will in the future trade under the name of Grindrod Intermodal, a division of Grindrod SA. The three other Grindrod group business operations that were consolidated into Grindrod Intermodal when it was established last year were rail and road transporters Cross Country Containers, the national network of container depots forming CMC Grindrod, and the warehousing and groupage operation, Grindrod J&J.
