CUSTOMS & EXCISE ACT AMENDMENTS
Schedule No. 1
With retrospective effect to 1 May 1994, in so far as it relates to any reduction in the rate of duty.


Chapter 84: By the substitution for Additional Note 2 to Chapter 84 of Schedule No.1 of the following: 2. For the purposes of subheading No.8450.1 the dry linen capacity shall be determined according to the washing efficiency text specifications as set out in subsection 4.3 of the SABS 1422 Standard Specification for Domestic Electric Laundry Treatment Machines, as amended.

CUSTOMS & EXCISE TARIFF APPLICATIONS: LISTS 10/96 AND 12/96
A. The following applications considered by the Board on Tariffs & Trade have not been supported:
1. Reduction in the duty on:
Paper and paperboard (Report No.3560) (List 39/94).

2. Rebate of the duty on:
Woven fabrics of synthetic staple fibres, for the manufacture of protective wear for firemen (Report No.3673) (List 2/96)

B. The following application received by the Board on Tariffs & Trade has not been proceeded with: Investigation to phase out item 470.03 (Report No.3290) (910301)

C. The following applications to the Board on Tariffs & Trade have been withdrawn:

1. Rebate of the duty on:
Rubber nitrile soles, for the manufacture of safety footwear (960064) (List 18/96).

2. Investigation into the alleged dumping of small- and large-frame industrial circuit-breakers imported from or originating in France (GG 15408: GN 7 of 7 January 1994).

D. Various applications for rebate of the duty in terms of item 470.03, which were considered by the Board on Tariffs & Trade, have been supported: The list is extensive. Please refer to the government gazette for details.
