Good increase in August airline passenger numbers

Although air cargo showed minimal growth of 0.2% in freight tonne kilometres (FTKs), the global demand for air travel continued to rise at a healthy level in August, according to the International Air Transport Association (Iata).

And this it attributed to robust growth in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.

Air passenger traffic in terms of revenue passenger kilometres (RPKs) rose 7.1% in August, against an 8.2% increase recorded for July, according to the data in the monthly Iata passenger report.

“August results continue the trend of strong demand for air travel, despite some softening in global economic growth, particularly in emerging markets,” said director-general and CEO, Tony Tyler.
