GOLD STAR Line will upgrade frequency and capacity on its South Africa - West Africa service with the addition of two vessels to the fleet.
Sister ships the Egoli Star and Tema Star will join the Thekweni Star, Bombay Star and Lagos Star on the route. The Egoli Star is already in service, while the Tema Star moves in on May 10. The Pro Asia will be withdrawn.
The 5-vessel fleet will offer a
10-12 day frequency.
Vessels will call at Durban, Tema, Lome, Lagos, Cotonou and Abidjan. We are able to consider additional ports in West Africa or South Africa as the speed frequency will still allow this, line manager at agents Polaris Shipping, John Mellows told FTW.
The move will simultaneously upgrade frequency on the South Africa - Sri Lanka route. On their return from West Africa, vessels discharge at Durban and load for Sri Lanka and the Indian subcontinent, Sri Lanka being one of Gold Star's regional hubs.
The service is cellular, including specialised container equipment for the carriage of reefer cargo and unusual loads in open tops and flat racks. Heavy lift unit loads can also be handled.
