ALAN PEAT THE CRATING specialists Cratelogic have just handled their biggest export job ever – packaging three giant pieces of a petrol plant before they were shipped out of Durban. The units each measured 10-metres x 5-m x 5.5-m high; occupied a space of just on 230-cubic metres; and weighed in at a mighty 40‑tons each. This, said Cratelogic’s Ryan James, set records in his company’s abnormal load and breakbulk packaging. “Because of the sheer size of the project,” he told FTW, “we had to do a detailed study of the units, pre-manufacture all the crating in Johannesburg, and then have it hauled by road to Durban.” But, James added, the job verified his company’s abilities in the abnormal load packaging field – backing its offer to do big project packing anywhere in the country.
