German shipping major recycles seven ships

German shipping line Hapag-Lloyd recycled seven older container ships, each with capacity for 4 101 TEUs, at certified shipyards in Turkey and China yesterday.

Hapag-Lloyd chief operating officer, Anthony Firmin, said that the recycling of these seven ships was part of the restructuring of the shipping line’s fleet.

Following its merger with the United Arab Shipping Company (UASC), three older vessels from the UASC fleet were also dismantled in September last year.
