ALAN PEAT WHY ARE you based in Gauteng? FTW asked Roland Raath, MD of Cargocare Freight Services, as part of our discussion about the Gauteng feature. “A good question,” he mused, as he shuffled questions of geography, market conditions, transport availability and the like around the subject. “I suppose that with the developments in information technology (IT) we are able to run our business from almost anywhere. “However, the demanding Gauteng market is where it happens and where we enjoy operating .” In Raath’s thinking, adding even more value for clients has to be a company’s philosophy if it wants to be successful in the highly-competitive Gauteng market. “We have been doing this by adding detailed, tailored management reports to clients that not only measure our performance but also supply vital statistics to the customer,” he said. “This so our Gauteng clients now enjoy guaranteed services - with transparency.” Another factor which supports a strong Gauteng presence for a forwarder is that many leading carriers – both ocean and air - are based in this critical market. To inter-communicate effectively in this market is an essence, Raath told FTW. “To achieve this we have just appointed Marilyse Rawlings as our service executive, and she is doing a super job keeping clients updated and informed, and brings a vast amount of experience to the Gauteng-based Cargocare. “Although we operate in the Durban market as well, we recognise the incredible size and value of the Gauteng market.”
