IT WAS a feather in the cap of local operator United Container Depots when US-based leasing company Textainer handed its Textainer 1999 Depot of the Year Award to the Gauteng branch ahead of 16 competing depots worldwide.
Textainer uses appointed depots for its storage and repair requirements which, according to UCD's acting Gauteng branch manager Claudia Kassebaum, are strictly controlled.
Textainer audits its depots at quarterly intervals, with factors like neatness of stacks, administration and reporting of stocks, repairs and tracking taken into account. Key players in the winning team are from the
left: David Ndlovu, yard inspector; Roshan Panday, Textainer representative; Mike Rudd, depot manager;
and Ashley van Heerden, workshop manager.
