Suspended Transnet Freight Rail chief executive Siyabonga Gama has been found guilty on all charges against him including tender irregularities and the irretrievable breakdown in his relationship with Transnet. The detailed 200-page findings of the independent chairman in the disciplinary hearing were delivered to both parties at the weekend. In the final stage of the proceedings the chairperson will be requested, after hearing further submissions from the parties, to recommend an appropriate sanction, Transnet spokesman John Dludlu said. Gama’s disciplinary action involved alleged irregularities in a locomotive deal and the awarding of a separate contract to General Nyanda Security Advisory Services, which is owned by the communications minister, Simpiwe Nyanda. Once the disciplinary hearing is settled, it is expected that a permanent group chief executive of Transnet will be named – a position that has been vacant for more than 15 months
