Work to boost the capacity of the Sena Railroad in Mozambique from 6.5 to 20 million tons of cargo per year should be completed in the first quarter of this year. It would cover the full 575 kilometres of the line from the coal town of Moatize to the port of Beira, Elias Xai-Xai, the director of the Sena Line reconstruction brigade (BRCL), told daily newspaper Notícias. The contract will cost some 163 million euros. Founded in 1914 by the then British company Trans-Zambezi Railways (TZR), the line only re-opened to goods traffic in May 2009, 26 years after it was closed due to the civil war.
