THIS YEAR marks the 25th anniversary of Freight & Trading Weekly. To mark the milestone event, Saflink executive director Alan Jones presented an original painting by Peter Bilas to Leona Marsh, founder of FTW's holding company Travel & Trade Publishing, and m.d. David Marsh at a special function hosted in Johannesburg last week.
FTW was established 25 years ago by John H Marsh, whose career as a shipping journalist started at the age of 14 on the Cape Argus in 1928, and ended with his death three years ago.
It has evolved over the past quarter decade from a 2-page black and white newsbrief, published fortnightly, to the comprehensive full-colour newspaper which today boasts the highest circulation among shipping publications in South Africa and is the only ABC-audited newspaper in its field.
The Specialist Press Association's 'Publisher of the Year' award, presented for 1997/98, was a crowning accolade for FTW in its silver anniversary year.
