In our assessment the provisional anti-dumping duties (provisional payments) which are due to lapse on 03 January 2015, should the anti-dumping investigation not be finalised, are expected to lapse. The anti-dumping duties did in fact lapse.
Due to the challenge of the avian influenza (bird flu) or AI being experienced in the countries, subject to this anti-dumping investigation, the lapsing of the provisional anti-dumping duties might well not result in increased imports.
According to Merck, AI viruses infect domestic poultry as well as pet, zoo and wild birds. In domestic poultry, AI viruses are typically of low pathogenicity (LP), causing subclinical infections, respiratory disease or drops in egg production. However, a few AI viruses cause severe systemic infections with high mortality. This highly pathogenic (HP) form of the disease has historically been called fowl plague. In most wild birds, AI viral infections are subclinical except for the recent H5N1 HP AI viruses of Eurasian lineage.
It is understood that the AI in the exporting countries are LP.
