Pretoria-based Frits Kroon
Transport has set its sights on the
Western Cape, a region of huge
opportunity in the view of director
Frits Kroon.
“There is much development
happening in and around Cape Town
ahead of 2010, and with the port on their
doorstep it makes sense to expand into
the area,” Kroon told FTW.
But he’s aware that it’s not an easy
market to break into.
“A major challenge is the abnormal
permits that we need to have when
travelling in the Western Cape, which
only allows for abnormal loads to
travel outside of peak times and during
the day.”
Essentially this means travelling time
between 09:00 and 15:00 every day.
Taking into account the large loads being
transported, it makes for very slow going.
But, says Kroon, his company remains
committed to the vision of doing more
work in the Western Cape.
With this in mind they have bought a
100-tonner lowbed in an effort to increase
their efficiency.
“Over the years we have handled
countless loads of up to 100 tons,
specialising in local and cross-border
lowbed services,” says Kroon. “We are
always working towards improving our
service and ensuring all our clients’ needs
are met.”
For Kroon this means employing
drivers of high quality and meeting
health and safety standards at all times.
“It is a long drive from Cape Town and
therefore we must ensure our staff are
equipped at all times to handle
all situations.”
He says continuous evaluations
and regular training are paramount for
the organisation.
