The CMA CGM group has announced that it has won the Kingston Containers Terminal concession in Jamaica – with effect from July 1 this year.

According to a statement by the French-owned group, upgrades to the port will start immediately.

Farid T Salem, CMA CGM executive officer, said: “With the Kingston Terminal, CMA CGM strengthens its investments in hub solutions.”

Port upgrades include the development of 2 400 metres of wharf and a draught of 15.5 metres. The facility will be equipped with 14 gantry cranes, later increasing to 18, plus 60 straddle-carriers that will increase the terminal’s annual handling capacity to 3.6 million TEUs.
