Freight management at the 'push of a button'

World Cargo Services (WCS) has introduced a document management and track and trace system, Digibility, which cuts down dramatically on paperwork, improves reporting and allows for close monitoring of operations. “It is extremely simple to use, allows clients to not only track their orders from time of placing with us, but to access all related origin, destination and shipping documentation at the push of a button. Any updates will be immediately highlighted to the user and documents can be viewed, printed or emailed at the user’s time and discretion,” said Colin Atkins, managing director of WCS. He says that the reams of emails, with headers and footers – which are shared between shipping agents, NVOs and lines in tracking a shipment from origin to destination – can be done away with as all communication is done and date/time stamped by the Digibility software. “The milestone reporting capability of Digibility has allowed WCS to monitor operations closely at all levels, making sure we are aware if delays or hiccups occur. This should ensure that the high service levels offered when we were a small NVO can now be matched with much higher volumes, allowing for the personal touch," says Atkins. He adds that WCS’s United States partner, CaroTrans, has been very supportive through the roll-out process. “They are working closely with us to ensure a timeous information f low.” Atkins says that having the same US partner for 20 years has allowed the company to monitor the market changes. “There is currently a definite trend towards increased production of more sophisticated products originating from the US,” he notes.
