As stories of devastation continue to flow from earthquake-ravaged Haiti, the South African freight forwarding industry is rallying to add its support in a drive facilitated by Heneways Freight Services, “What started off as an in-house project of cleaning and donating our bags of used uniforms culminated in a much larger drive with the blessing of MD John Buchel,” Heneways’ Karen-Sue Sacks told FTW. “Last Tuesday we got the green light from Saaff Gauteng chairman Jan Ludolph to approach and mobilise the freight industry to assist,” said Sacks, who will co-ordinate the project on behalf of the industry. Empty containers can be left on trailers - preferably in Lascelles road opposite Heneways’ head office. “We are trying to get containers, passage and roadhaul free from our service providers,” says Sacks, “and this seemingly is the biggest problem. “We are trying to mobilise the entire freight forwarding industry nationally to assist.” Donations of clothing, blankets and non perishable foodstuffs are all welcome. Money can be donated but must go directly to the Red Cross: Bank: Standard Bank Account Name: The South African Red Cross Society Account number: 070 822 808 Branch: Thibault Square Code: 020 – 909 For further information email Karen-Sue.
