THE DEVELOPMENT of electronic commerce in the freight industry is under the spotlight at a conference in the US planned to help the freight industry understand and utilise the challenges of the information revolution. Entire management teams are attending Electronic Commerce for Freight Transportation '99, according to the organisers. This shows just how important e-commerce is to the whole future of the freight industry, says conference director Chris Saynor. It's not just the latest buzzword, but the number one issue within the industry today. The conference has just ended, but you can make a virtual trip to order or view the papers that were delivered. Speakers from industry presented case studies in which they showed how they planned to use e-commerce, revolutionise their customer care, enhance tracking and tracing systems and improve connectivity throughout the logistics chain. There is more information on the Web at www.firstconf.com/transport/ecom.
