The UK freight industry is running out of patience as the country’s post-Brexit trading conditions remain short on facts.
Robert Keen, director general of the British International Freight Association (Bifa), has said that Bifa members want greater transparency and clarity.
“The sooner the government provides some clear communication and detail on the type of trade deal that the UK is seeking before the end of 2020, when the post-Brexit transition period runs out, the better for all concerned,” said Keen.
“While the government has often stated that it desires a zero tariff, zero quota trade deal, many suggest that trying to achieve that before the end of this year is a very tight schedule - and the prospect of a no-deal scenario at the end of 2020 is by no means off the table,” said Keen.
He said that Bifa members were desperate to hear what Boris Johnson would outline when he announced the UK's new trade priorities this week.
