THE FREIGHT alliance forged by MK Freight Systems in West Africa expects to add two new partners in Africa, adding a further 10 destinations to the 22 already served. “Our alliance has taken off and we are pleased with the support shown by our growing client base,” says Craig Brown, MK Airlines commercial manager for Africa. Afrijet Airlines of Nigeria is MK’s new West African partner. “This has enabled us through the alliance, interline agreement and the hubbing system, to offer the new destinations of Lagos, Port Harcourt and Abuja," said Brown. Based on the hubbing concept in West Africa, the company is able to serve 22 destinations weekly, with others on a special charter basis. “We have explored further opportunities in East Africa and are in the final stages of negotiation with two further partner airlines that will join the freight alliance, adding 10 new destinations in the near future.” He says Hewa Bora Airlines, which that has joined the freight alliance in Central Africa, has enhanced its services through its network and hubbing operation to the DRC. Brown believes the MK Freight Systems hubbing operation is ideally suited for the development of heavy freight services to industry, forming a vital air bridge to new markets in Africa and benefiting the South African economy.
