THE forwarding and clearing (F&C) industry’s “Council of 10” last week moved one step closer to the creation of a black economic empowerment (BEE) charter for the industry sector following a meeting with the National Department of Transport (NDoT).
The council is a democratically-formed group of the 10 largest F&C operations in the industry - DHL Danzas, Exel, Hellmann, Kuehne & Nagel, Schenker, Uti, DNA Micor, Megafreight, Rohlig Grindrod and Safcor Panalpina - assembled to prepare a draft of the sector’s charter.
According to Sean McSweeney, human resources director of Safcor Panalpina - one of the players behind the formation of the council and the draft charter process - the NDoT asked for a meeting with council representatives on January 14.
The results of this meeting were then due to be presented to the January get-together of council members this week, and more information on the progress of the charter procedure will soon be available.
Discussions with trade unions and other stakeholders in the industry are also on the Council of 10’s diary for early this year.
