Logistics operator Dynalog is set to launch a Cape Town branch this year, according to owner Kobus Rossouw. “Plans to expand the business in the Western Cape have been on the cards for some time as the company continues to drive its courier product with specific focus on African routes,” he told FTW. Finding and creating new opportunities was critical in the current economic environment, especially with the focus by most customers on fast turnaround times and discounted rates, he added. “Airfreight exports in South Africa have seen a decline year-on-year of about 6.5 % and with figures like that it’s crucial to focus on the client,” he said. “As a freight
forwarder, by adding value with good pricing and service we can assist the shipper to sell more.” According to Rossouw it is essential that forwarders start understanding that they are part of the chain. “The biggest part of it is our reliability in moving our export products faster and better all the time.” This, he said, had to be accomplished in a challenging economic environment where there was also a shortage of capacity into key markets. “It makes it very difficult to compete with sea and road when there is limited capacity and availability,” he said. And while there was an increase in air capacity in many areas it was often not in key markets for cargo.
