As part of an ongoing

expansion strategy in

southern Africa, Cape Townheadquartered

clearing and

forwarding

agency

GoBorders

has opened a

new office at

the Buitepos

border post in

Namibia.

Part of the

GoGlobal

group, the

new office will

service trade

on the Trans

Kalahari corridor.

According to Deirdre de

Klerk, commercial director

at GoGlobal, the office only

services the Namibian side of

the border with no firm plans

as yet to open an office on the

corresponding Botswana side at

Mamuno.

But, she said,

continuous

expansion

across not only

all of South

Africa’s borders

but those in the

region, were

part of the

company’s longterm

growth

strategy.

“We opened

our first border office four years

ago and have since expanded

to the most recent office at the

Buitepos border post, bringing

the number of offices to five,”

she said. “Having a physical

presence at the border post

has proven to be extremely

beneficial. Not only do we have

procedures and processes in

place, but it has ensured the

establishment of very strong

relationships with border

authorities. Clearing cargo

through a border office is far

more efficient as it is not a hit

and miss situation.”

She said with the GoBorder

systems electronically linked

to the relevant customs

authorities, documentation

and cargo moved swiftly. "We

like to think we have brought a

different approach to the border

posts,” said De Klerk. “Our

teams are in attendance when

there are customs inspections,

they are on hand when there

are challenges, and are able

to quickly and effectively deal

with any issues that arise.”

She said with offices at the

Vioolsdrift and Noordoewer

borderposts – as well as

the Nakop and Ariamsvlei

borderposts between South

Africa and Namibia – the

office at Buitepos added

additional value as it

expanded the offering to a

new route.

“Our next border office

that we plan to open will be at

Skilpadshek between South

Africa and Botswana, while

an office at Beitbridge is also

under consideration.”

office will be at

Skilpadshek between

South Africa and

Botswana.
